Beliefs Holding You Back From Getting Organized

Hey Collectors! Are your beliefs about getting organized are holding you back?

Home organization can be complicated. Just like fears and excuses there is the belief about whether you can or cannot get organized.
A belief is just a feeling. We all have many feelings. Beliefs are not facts.

Dictionary.com says the definition of belief is:

1. something believed; an opinion or conviction:

a belief that the earth is flat.

2. confidence in the truth or existence of something not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof:a statement unworthy of belief.

We tell ourselves constantly that we cannot get organized – that it becomes visceral. We believe it in our heart, our mind, and our body. Your belief that you can’t get organized is so strong that it constantly sets you up for failure.

A person with an open mouth and a beard.

Home organization can be complex. I am going to share a short story. It is a story that a client shared with me many years ago, and I have thought of the story often. Some of you may have heard it is called The Cookie Thief. The author is Valerie Cox.

A woman was waiting at an airport one night,

With several long hours before her flight.

She hunted for a book in the airport shops.

Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.

She was engrossed in her book but happened to see,

That the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be.

Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between,

Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.

So she munched the cookies and watched the clock,

As the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock.

She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,

Thinking, if I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.

With each cookie she took, he took one too,

When only one was left, she wondered what he would do.

With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh,

He took the last cookie and broke it in half.

He offered her half, as he ate the other,

She snatched it from him and thought oooh, brother.

This guy has some nerve and he is also rude,

Why he didn’t even show any gratitude!

She had never known when she had been so galled,

And sighed with relief when her flight was called.

She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate,

Refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate.

She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat,

Then she sought her book, which was almost complete.

As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise,

There was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.

If mine are here, she moaned in despair,

The others were his, and he tried to share.

Too late to apologize, she realized with grief,

That she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.

Take some time to think about your home organization beliefs.

Have you ever felt like this lady did Collectors? Have you believed something so strong that you knew something was the whole-hearted truth and you were so upset about this thought in your head only to realize that you were completely wrong?

Did you notice in the story how the lady became physically agitated and completely irritated just based on a negative belief that was completely wrong? Have you encountered this situation with clutter?

Take some time to think about the negative beliefs about getting organized that are holding you back.
Do you ever tell yourself that you will never be able to get organized, therefor living the life you believe?

What if you’re 100% wrong? What if it’s just like this story, and you’ve got yourself all riled up about something that isn’t even accurate. Beliefs are not facts. They are just feelings of certainty about something.

Collectors, do you think you could manifest a more organized lifestyle simply by believing that you can? Yes you can. If you believe you can get organized and that you are capable of getting organized, then you will become a more organized person. You have got to believe in your self. You must believe that you can get organized so that you can allow yourself the freedom to get organized.
